The clinical test behind the Nova One

A claim such as more than 80% less hair growth ought to be substantiated. That is why the Laesera Nova One IPL has been clinically tested. Below you can read how the test was set up, what the results were and, just as importantly, who they apply to and what the limitations are.

80%+
hair reduction in up to 7 weeks
18
participants completed the test
0
serious side effects reported

How was it tested?

The test was carried out at Shenzhen Spring Sun Hospital (January–March 2023). Twenty participants aged 22 to 35 started the course; eighteen completed the full treatment period. The treatment areas were arm, underarm and/or leg.

After shaving, the area was treated with the Nova One, first every few days and then weekly, with aloe vera as aftercare. Hair reduction was assessed visually afterwards against the starting situation.

What were the results?

Every participant who completed the course showed more than 80% less hair growth within a maximum of seven weeks, with no serious side effects such as swelling or blistering. Mild, short-lived redness after a session was considered normal.

Who do these results apply to?

IPL works on the contrast between dark hair and lighter skin. The test confirms suitability for Fitzpatrick skin types I to IV with hair that is black, dark brown, brown or golden blonde.

  • Not suitable for red, grey or white hair, as there is too little pigment.
  • Not suitable for very dark skin (Fitzpatrick VI).
  • Suitable to a limited extent for dark skin (Fitzpatrick V); caution required.

Unsure where you fall? Take the skin type test first.

What does this mean for you?

The results show a strong, rapid reduction in hair growth. It is important to stay honest: this is long-term hair reduction, not permanent removal. After the course you keep the result up with the occasional maintenance session. Pace and end result vary by person, skin type and hair colour.

Limitations of the test

Transparency is part of it. This was a clinical test with a limited group (18 participants) and a visual assessment of hair reduction, not an automated hair count. The test measures results over a period of seven weeks; longer-term effects were not studied.
